StreetsWiki . . .

What Should You Write on StreetsWiki?

is a community-created, online encyclopedia for transportation, urban environmental, and public space issues.

It’s a place for ordinary people, planners, and academics to read and write about our cities and how we can make them more livable.

Sibling to Streetsblog and Streetfilms, StreetsWiki is the public space of the Livable Streets Network: a place where you can share your knowledge in a dynamic and growing international community of over 125,000 readers. Frustrated by the lack of communication between urban planners and advocates? Have some new research on commuter behavior? Or simply want to share what makes your street unique? StreetsWiki is the spot.

Why StreetsWiki?

StreetsWiki is a wiki, which means that anyone with a Livable Streets account can easily add or edit articles. Many people are familiar with the term “wiki” because of Wikipedia. Like Wikipedia, StreetsWiki is made up of wiki pages: informative web pages designed for collaborative editing. But just as Streetsblog provides advocacy journalism to those working towards livable streets, StreetsWiki is a reference work more deeply and narrowly focused for this industry/advocacy community.

StreetsWiki also differs from Wikipedia in that it is built on a different wiki technology--one chosen for its great accessibility. Writing an article for StreetsWiki online should be as easy as using your favorite word processor, and we are always working on improvements to make editing even even easier. In the near future, StreetsWiki and Wikipedia will be able to share content more seamlessly.
